Don't we all just hate school well lucky for the girls they didn't have go to school ,oh wait they got taught how to be maids from their mothers and the slaves, but the boys had to go to school and learn about poems, how boring. They had to go to school at age 6. Boys had to go to military school or Private school. The schools focused on literature, public speaking and philosophy. Many people became very famous for their great education, like Homer the great poet. As for the girls they learned household skills such as cleaning, cooking, sewing and serving. The fathers of the boys who went to school had to pay lots of fees to get the boys into school. Boys had to learn basic studies, too, they learned things such as how to read, write, count, dance, sing, recite poetry, and play the lyre.
We are used to reading from books and writing on normal paper, am i right? Well they had no books and they wrote on scrolls. And the students had to memorize poems as their teacher read them out loud, sounds pretty hard right, but they had to do that since they were just starting.
Here are some questions that i have been wondering maybe you can answer them as a comment. OK here they are...
#1 What subject is the most important subject for the boys?
#2 What did the children use to write with?
#3 Did they have recces and lunch like we have today?
#4 How long was school?
